CM2000 gets involved in Dementia Awareness Week

15-21 May is Alzheimer’s Society’s Dementia Awareness Week, encouraging people to get the information and support they need.

Dementia is a term given to a group of symptoms from certain diseases which affect the brain. Alzheimer's disease is the most common cause of dementia. The symptoms of dementia are progressive and on an unknown time scale but it isn’t an inevitable part of aging.

CM2000 are working with Birmingham City University and homecare providers on an exciting project that identifies the early indicators of dementia, enabling timely intervention and better pathway support.

The project, known as UNTAPPED (Utilising Novel Techniques to Assess Predictive Patterns in Early Dementia), embraces predictive modelling technology and under-explored social and behavioural indicators to identify dementia risk up to 15 years earlier.

Care Workers and informal Carers involved in shaping the data capture questionnaire have reinforced the importance of gaining a better understanding of the early signs of dementia.

Mark Thomas, Managing Director of CM2000 says “Dementia is the biggest health challenge facing our society and we are excited about the potential for technology to identify risks at a much earlier stage. The UNTAPPED project is on track to deliver a Dementia Support Toolkit which monitors risk indicators in prediction and early support intervention for citizens, family and care givers alike.”

During Dementia Awareness Week, CM2000 are offering all staff the highly regarded Dementia Friends training to improve their knowledge and understanding of a condition which already affects 46 million people worldwide and is set to rise to 100 million by 2050.

Mark added “The UK has a target of 2.5 million Dementia Friends by 2018. CM2000 are committed to being a Dementia Friends organisation where staff are encouraged to learn more about dementia and supported to take action.”
